Spoken word artist Andrea Gibson will perform at OCU University at 7:30 p.m. on Monday, November 7 at the BlackBox Theater in the Wanda L. Bass School of Music.
Gibson is not gentle with their truths. It is this raw fearlessness that has led them to the forefront of the spoken word movement. The first winner of the Women’s World Poetry Slam, Gibson has headlined prestigious performance venues coast to coast with powerful readings on war, class, gender, bullying, white privilege, sexuality, love, and spirituality
Gibson’s books and albums – featured on such outlets as BBC, Air America, C-SPAN, and Free Speech TV – have served as a rallying cry for action and a welcome mat at the door of the heart’s most compassionate room. In their most recent book, PANSY, Gibson balances themes of love, gender, politics, sexuality, illness, family and forgiveness with stunning imagery and a fierce willingness to delve into the exploration of what it means to truly heal.
Gibson is the 20th featured speaker sponsored by ÐßÐßÊÓƵ’s Center for Interpersonal Studies through Film & Literature. Founded in 1997 through the generosity and creativity of Jeanne Hoffman Smith, MSSW, the Center aims to introduce university students and the greater Oklahoma community to some of the important contemporary artists of our time, ranging from Pulitzer Prize and National Book Award winners to Poet Laureates of the United States.
