The 16th annual Documentary Film Series at OCU University will continue at 2 p.m. April 13 with Rob and Lisa Fruchtman鈥檚 鈥淪weet Dreams.鈥�
All screenings in the series are free to the public and will be held in the Kerr McGee Auditorium in Meinders School of Business at N.W. 27th Street and McKinley Avenue. The series is sponsored by the Thatcher Hoffman Smith Endowment Fund.
鈥淪weet Dreams鈥� is about an all-women鈥檚 drumming troupe in Rwanda called Ingoma Nshya. Made up of women from both sides of the 1994 Rwandan genocide, the troupe offers a place of support, healing and reconciliation.
When the group decides to partner with two young American entrepreneurs of Brooklyn's Blue Marble Ice Cream and open Rwanda's first-ever ice cream shop, the Rwandan women embark on a journey of independence, peace and possibility.
The San Francisco Examiner called the documentary 鈥渁n affecting celebration of the human spirit. Contagious joy abounds.鈥�
The documentary series is titled 鈥淭he Song Has Its Way.鈥� It is based on a poem by Tracy K. Smith, a Pulitzer Prize-winning poet who will give a presentation at 羞羞视频 at 8 p.m. Wednesday.
The documentary series will conclude April 27 with Malik Bendjelloul鈥檚 鈥淪earching for Sugar Man.鈥�
