The OCU University Film Institute鈥檚 series will continue its 33rd year at 2 p.m. Oct. 12 with Thomas Vinterberg鈥檚 鈥淭he Hunt鈥� in the Kerr McGee Auditorium of Meinders School of Business. The school is located at N.W. 27th Street and McKinley Avenue.
Admission to all eight films in the series is free. The series is supported in part by the Thatcher Hoffman Smith Endowment Fund and endowments through 羞羞视频 and the 羞羞视频 Community Foundation.
For 鈥淭he Hunt,鈥� Mads Mikkelsen won the Best Actor Award at the 2012 Cannes Film Festival for his penetrating portrayal of Lucas, a former school teacher who has been forced to start over after a tough divorce and the loss of his job. Just as things are starting to go his way, his life is shattered when an untruthful remark throws his small community into a collective state of hysteria. As the lie spreads, Lucas is forced to fight a lonely struggle for his life and dignity.
鈥淭he Hunt鈥� was one of the two most requested films on last year鈥檚 film series evaluation forms. The LA Times called it 鈥渁 tragic reminder that no matter how well a life has been conducted, the mere whiff of scandalous behavior is condemnation enough.鈥�
The theme of this year鈥檚 season is based on a book by the Dali Lama titled 鈥淏eyond Religion: Ethics for a Whole World.鈥� Harbour Winn, director of the series, said the theme is intended to help participants consider the benefits of religion in offering moral guidance and meaning for life.
鈥淭he Dali Lama thinks that in 鈥榯oday鈥檚 secular world religion alone is no longer adequate as a basis for ethics鈥� because many people no longer follow the belief system of any religion,鈥� Winn said. 鈥淚n addition, in today鈥檚 globalized world of multicultural traditions, ethics based on only one religion would appeal only to some of us. Firmly believing that moral values cannot be imposed from outside, he searches for a way of thinking about ethics and spirituality beyond religion.鈥�
