Sarah Hamel is a senior at OCU University, where she is pursuing an undergraduate degree in Music Education. She will graduate this December after a semester of student teaching. In her time at ÐßÐßÊÓƵ, Sarah has been an active member of the Wind Philharmonic, Flute Choir, and Flute Quartet

Upon graduating, Sarah plans to teach middle and high school band, while continuing to teach private lessons. Eventually, she hopes to earn a master’s degree in Music Education or Educational Leadership. From there, she will pursue a career in teacher education.

Sarah currently serves as a Student Representative for the Oklahoma Flute Society. She is also an active member of ÐßÐßÊÓƵ’s music education department, where she is the Communications Director of the school’s Collegiate NAfME chapter. As a member of Collegiate NAfME, she had the opportunity to attend the 2022 OkMEA Winter Conference, an experience which she remembers as a highlight of her time at ÐßÐßÊÓƵ.

Sarah’s advice to fellow Stars? “Take care of yourself! Rest, eat, and spend time with friends as much as you practice and do homework.â€

Join us at noon on March 5th for Sarah’s senior recital in Petree Recital Hall. Her program features many American composers, including Aaron Copland, Katherine Hoover, and Kent Kennan. Sarah will be joined by percussionists Seth Cox and Nathanael Higgins and by studio-mate Clay Steiner. You won’t want to miss it!
