Daniel Glick鈥檚 A Place to Stand, USA (2014), 86 min
A Place to Stand tells the story of celebrated poet and Santa Fe, New Mexico native Jimmy Santiago Baca. Baca was a petty thief and a drug dealer when he was sentenced to five years in Arizona State Prison, one of the deadliest prisons in America. He began his incarceration violent, angry and illiterate, yet taught himself how to read and write, discovering a passion for poetry that ultimately saved his life. The film is inspired by Baca鈥檚 best-selling memoir of the same name, published in 2001.

Acclaimed director Steve James (Hoop Dreams) and executive producers Martin Scorsese (The Departed) and Steven Zaillian (Moneyball) present Life Itself, a documentary that recounts the inspiring and entertaining life of world-renowned film critic and social commentator Roger Ebert鈥攁 story that is by turns personal, funny, painful, and transcendent. Based on his bestselling memoir of the same name, Life Itself explores the legacy of Ebert's life, from his Pulitzer Prize-winning film criticism at the Chicago Sun-Times to becoming one of the most influential cultural voices in America.

Wim Wenders' The Salt of the Earth, USA & Brazil (2015), 110 min
For the last 40 years, the photographer Sebasti茫o Salgado has been traveling through the continents, in the footsteps of an ever-changing humanity. He has witnessed some of the major events of our recent history: international conflicts, starvation and exodus. He is now embarking on the discovery of pristine territories, of wild fauna and flora, and of grandiose landscapes as part of a huge photographic project, which is a tribute to the planet's beauty. Sebasti茫o Salgado's life and work are revealed to us by his son, Juliano, who went with him during his last travels, and by Wim Wenders, himself a photographer. Oscar documentary nomination.
Admission to the film series is free, but donations help sustain the Institute's mission. Donations can be made at each film or mailed to the鈥咝呤悠� Film Institute Endowment at OCU University or the鈥咝呤悠� Film Institute鈥檚 Designated Endowment in the Community Foundation of the Kirkpatrick Family Fund. OCU University and the Thatcher Hoffman Smith Endowment Fund for the university鈥檚 Center for Interpersonal Studies through Film and Literature also support the Institute.
